This update file is contains the additional reports added to version 4.4 that made version 4.5. Rather than force users to download another large file, we though it best to upload a listing of additions in Word and text formats (sorry, the stack isn’t as easy to update).
Adobe Type Reunion
----------------------
The current version of Adobe Type Reunion is 1.01.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you use ATR and WYSIWYG Menus at the same time. They try to do the same thing, and you should consider yourself lucky if your system boots at all with these two loaded at the same time. jbx (Jorg Brown)
As for ATR and MultiMaster, I'm sorry but I have to place the blame on ATR for it. For some reason ATR and pop-up menus of any sort do not seem to get along well. I'll let tech support know of the problem, though... jbx (Jorg Brown)
TIP -> FullWrite Professional — When using Adobe Type Reunion in FullWrite Professional, the Walkdown menu feature does not work. Also, you must hold down the Shift key and double-click on the desired menu to activate menus in the Find, Change... dialog box. If the Type Reunion INIT is loaded on your machine but you have disabled it while loading FullWrite Professional, the Walkdown menus will work if you hit Command-(#) twice to activate them, and the Find, Change... menus can be accessed by double-clicking on them. From the doc file, submitted by Larry Balint
TIP -> Adobe Type Reunion has also been tested with MenuFonts. These two programs may be loaded at the same time, but will not work together. In applications which use Adobe Type Reunion, the default Font menu will display Adobe Type Reunion's menu. By holding down the Shift key while selecting the Font menu, you can disable Adobe Type Reunion and have MenuFonts' stylized menu appear. MacWrite II's Font menu is similar, and the same is true of Suitcase II's stylized menu option. If, for instance, the modifier key for Suitcase II's Font menu is the Option key, then you should simultaneously hold down the Shift key (to disable Type Reunion) and the Option key in order to show Suitcase II's stylized menu. From the doc file, submitted by Larry Balint
TIP -> Word 4.0 — The font menu in the Character Format dialog box is not affected by Adobe Type Reunion. Also, if fonts are added to or removed from the Font menu during a session (either by opening or closing suitcases of fonts or by using Word's Command-Option-Plus/Minus feature on the Font/Size menu) the Font menu becomes disorganized. To correct this, quit Word after modifying the Font menu and relaunch the application. Adobe Type Reunion is not activated when using keyboard access to the Font menu (using the Decimal key from the numeric keypad). From the doc file, submitted by Larry Balint
TIP -> WordPerfect 1.0.3 — The font menu functions as it should, but the style menu does not pop-up. It still can be accessed by selecting that line in the menu, or by typing in a Command-Y. From the doc file, submitted by Larry Balint
Known Incompatibilities: Works Plus Spell, Math Type DA From the doc file, submitted by Larry Balint
After Dark
-----------
I am happy to give you a solution instead of a mere workaround to the sound conflict between After Dark and MS Mail. As you know, the 2 sounds collided badly because After Dark plays sounds the “new” way, while MS Mail played its incoming mail chime the “old” way — until now. I got a patched version of Mail that Microsoft had written to address sound problems. I tried it on many Macs in our office here, and every time, the sound problem was fixed — I could set the incoming mail chime to none, one, two, or three, and it almost always played the full chime sound(s) without crashing, but properly waking up AD as it should. I say “almost always” worked because I found a couple of cases where the Mail sound didn't play right (like on my Mac II with System 6.0.7), but then I found that it also didn't play right even with After Dark out of the System Folder entirely. I called Microsoft and they said they were happy that it fixed the problem with After Dark, and as for the problems even with After Dark out of the picture, well, it was an unreleased beta version, which often aren't perfect. But they said it would be fully fixed in their forthcoming upgrade, which will include up-to-date sound handling for System 6.0.7 and 7.0. That's why I said I'm glad I can give you a solution instead of the workaround of turning off the sound in one of the 2 programs. Unfortunately, the “solution” may involve an upgrade fee, I don't know; but we couldn't fix the “old” code in somebody else's program. Mike Schutte
TIP -> It's true that some of the After Dark modules work on both monitors, some only one. Each module has its own preference. Some, like Warp and Picture Frame, work on the main monitor. Others, like Rose or String Theory, work on the “most colorful” monitor. Others, like Fish and Flying Toasters, work on all monitors. But one problem that arises in the case of one B/W monitor and one color is that, between After Dark and the system software, the color graphics have to be converted to their B/W form (with apologies to the way color graphics look on B/W monitors), and this slows things down. I can sympathize with you, since I have a monochrome monitor and a color monitor on my Mac II. But Don Weatherwax is right when he points out that, in most cases, you can use MultiModule to force a module to work on a monitor other than its normal preference. Yu could make Warp work on the secondary monitor, Fish work only on the color monitor, etc., although you couldn't make a color-only module like Satori work on a B/W monitor. Mike Schutte
AlarmsClock
-------------
AlarmsClock won't work with Stepping Out II. Thomas J. Reestman
Adobe Type Reunion
----------------------
I have found an unusual apparent conflict between Adobe Type Reunion and SimCity Supreme 1.2c. SimCity stopped running under MultiFinder as soon as I put ATR in my system folder, and resumed working as soon as I removed it. There was no problem while running under Finder. I am running a IIsi 5/80. None of my other INITs and CDEVs seem to cause a problem with SimCity. Bob Nichols
AutoSqueeze
--------------
When you duplicate a file in an “automatically compressed” folder in the Finder (using the Duplicate command in the File menu, or by moving a file out of an “automatically compressed” folder while holding the Option key down), the copy will be truncated. Watch out for this: you get no warning that this is happening, but when you open the file, the last half will be gone! Al Heynneman
My name is Dawson Dean and I wrote AutoSqueeze. Today I learned about a serious bug that can cause potential data loss, and I want to fill people in on what is happening and let you know where to reach me. The bug was well described in an earlier posting, but to quickly recap:
1) If you duplicate a file in a compressed folder, the copy of the file will be truncated. You will not get any warning. This also seems to happen when you copy a compressed file from a compressed folder to another disk.
2) Using compressed files in MPW causes a crash. I have not followed up on this bug because I do not have MPW. For the time being, it is safest to avoid all automatically compressed files in MPW. I will post more when I learn more. I have spoken to somebody with MPW and I will use his machine to get a better idea of the bug.
3) Double clicking an automatically compressed LightSpeed C project file will cause LSC to complain that the file cannot be read. There is not data loss nor is there a crash, but it is a nuisance.
Obviously, the first bug is the most severe. There is a temporary work around: expand files in the finder before using them in MPW or duplicating them in Finder. You may expand files by moving them out of an automatically compressed folder and/or removing the “compressed” suffix from their name. The original poster also forwarded a message to me from somebody else who has had this problem. In the future you may directly contact me by e-mail at: dawson@cs.cornell.edu. I apprectate any and all bug reports and suggestions and I apologize for any inconvenience. Dawson Dean
ClickChange
-------------
I seem to be having a conflict between ClickChange 1.04 and Now Utilities DeskPicture 2.0.3. When ClickChange is active, and Now DeskPicture is chosen (using NowMenus), the Control Panel comes up as completely blank. If the Control Panel is chosen with the General CDEV first, and you then scroll to DeskPicture, much of the DeskPicture display is blank. Clicking in the DeskPicture Control Panel window in both of these cases sometimes caused system bombs. Ron Weber
DataDesk Keyboard
--------------------
There is a conflict between the SoftPC EGA/AT option module 1.4 and some DataDesk Switchboards. With my Switchboard, the Command and Option keys will become stuck down if pressed from inside SoftPC, and cannot be reset without restarting the Macintosh. Both Insignia and DataDesk were unaware of the problem, but Insignia's tech support said it was probably a keyboard ROM bug because they use custom ADB calls to poll the keyboard. DataDesk knows of some bugs in their ROMs and is shipping me a preproduction replacement, which should solve the problem. If you open the top compartment of the Switchboard, where the DIP switches are, the chip that is visible is the ROM. The third line is the revision info; mine reads DDISWB. Call DataDesk and they'll ship you a new one. Rob Levandowski
Called DataDesk back today... the new ROM, which hasn't fixed the problem, is now causing intermittent problems with my Cordless Mouse. Neither DataDesk nor Insignia can find a problem, and DataDesk is idealess as to the behavior of my mouse as the new ROM was supposed to fix just such a mouse problem. They're sending me the two previous ROM revisions to see how those work. The current ROM (with a hand-labelled sticker ‘4’), when used with SoftPC EGA/AT, also causes Key Caps to claim that there isn't a Key Layout file for the keyboard after the Command or Option keys are pressed.
DeskPicture
------------
BTW, I found a conflict between DeskPicture 2.0.3 and Virtual 2.0.3. I had DeskPicture configured to pick random pictures and it would crash on startup four times out of five, ONLY when Virtual was installed. Changing the order of INITs didn't help, since a portion of the Virtual code loads before all INITs. I checked all my pictures, but none was corrupted. I then turned off the “Pick random file” option and the crashes disappeared. (I think I'll use ResEdit to change “Pick random file” to “Have random crashes”). :-) Gabriel Rotskos
8*24 GC
--------
The problem is a known one. The work around, for the time being, is to turn off the acceleration before trying to format the disk in Apple File Exchange. You can duplicate the problem with just the 8/24GC CDEV and AFE. No other INITs are at fault in this case. Rodney Somerstein
Fish!
-----
LOADING ORDER -> Fish! works fine with alternate desktops (such as those generated by !DeskPict). Fish! must, however, load before Icon Wrap, or Icon Wrap will tromp some or all of Fish!'s fish. Matt Neuburg
Freehand
----------
Both SPAMM and another freeware SANE substitute showed me problems with Freehand 2.02 in the text style dialog. The scale always changed exponentialy, letter and word spacing was blank, the size and leading pop-ups were blank, couldn't even cancel out until re-adjusted. jon fiechtner
HyperCard
-----------
When 32 bit processing is selected by the Control Panel, Version 1.2 of the SGIL FFP_Control (the Fast Math Package) conflicts with HyperCard 2.0. To remove the conflict, select the SANE (normal) processing choice or deactivate the INIT. Paul R. Young
INITPicker
-----------
FIX -> INITPicker 2.0 defeats the undelete function of MacTools Mirror 2.0. When I informed Central Point Software, they sent me Mirror 2.1 which appears to solve the problem. Steve Hodges
LOADING ORDER -> ClickPaste 2.0 needs to load after DeskTop Manager, which is included with allShare 1.1.4, when INITPicker is active to prevent a possible hang at startup. J.Web Phillips
MacCache LP Cache Card
-------------------------
FIX -> I've been working with the folks at UR-Micro on a problem I've experienced with their low profile 32K Cache Card LP for the Mac IIci. I first noticed the problem with Disk Doubler, but eventually had problems with StuffIt Classic and Compactor, too. Well, they seem to have worked things out, and the card they sent me recently no longer causes crashes with any of those programs (at least not on my system). I don't know exactly what their policies are, but they sure seemed motivated to keep their customers happy, so if anyone else is having problems with their LP Cache Card from UR-Micro, now would be a good time to call them about a replacement. Brad Walrod
MasterFinder
--------------
There is a definite conflict between MasterFinder 1.02 DA (not the app) and the Radius Init (v1.61). Attempting to drag the directory tile results in an immediate Bomb, 1D=10. Removal of the Radius Init which enables many of the features of the Pivot Monitor, solves the problem. Robert Seaver
So far the only incompatiblities we've had reported here is CE Toolbox not letting a quit application always return to MasterFinder when we launched that app in a sub-launch. And Bob Seaver's find on the Radius Pivot init — it seems to interfere when you drag the contents of one pane to the next. Ron Duritsch
MenuKey
----------
The very nice new Cdev MenuKey 1.1 is incompatible with Microphone 2.0 (according to the author, Richard Harvey). Sure enough, it crashes when invoked with my copy of that program. It may be specified as an App to be excluded with the control panel, and bypass the problem, I have found. Robert Seaver
MMInit
--------
LOADING ORDER -> MMInit is said to fix a Memory Manager bug in the most recent versions of system 6 (like 6.0.7), so that your computer works faster. There has been some debate (in Info-Mac) as to how effective it is, and one user argued that it could harm certain files (!), but I think this was an error. It should probably load early, but it must not load before Boomerang: if it does, Boomerang will be unable to load (and bootup will come to a halt). Matt Neuburg
MultiMaster
-------------
FIX ->While we wait for Now to fix the bug which keeps Hypercard 2.0 stacks from being set aside (by Now Utility’s MultiMaster), I have a set of scripts which you can insert in your Home stack which accomplish the same thing:
on idle
if the suspended is true then
set visible of card window to false
else
set visible of card window to true
end if
end idle
on suspendstack
set visible of card window to false
end suspendstack
on resumestack
set visible of card window to true
end resumestack
This set of scripts does have the side-effect of interfering with visual effects when moving from stack to stack, because it hides each stack as it becomes inactive. (Another script which I tried which hid all of the open stacks after switching out of Hypercard was too slow, so I had to do it one stack at a time.) Stanley K. Dorst
The problem with set aside (discovered, alas, shortly after 2.0.3 went final) can be got around by turning off the “zoom on set aside” option. Note that this problem only affects you if you have >1 monitors. jbx (Jorg Brown)
MultiSpool
-----------
MultiSpool is a shareware print spooler for the ImageWriter. The presence of QuicKeys 2.0.1, however, prevents MultiSpool 1.0b3 from functioning properly (actually, it prevents it from functioning at all!). The order of loading does not affect this behavior. The problem does not occur with earlier versions of QuicKeys (e.g., QuicKeys 1.2). Richard Quadrel
NowMenus
------------
NowMenus causes problems for Excel working under non-MultiFinder environments. I wish (I really wish) that I could blame Microsoft, but this one's our problem. We're hoping to have an update soon. jbx (Jorg Brown)
PowerCard
-----------
The official DayStar Digital Incompatibility List for PowerCard 030's: (from Steve Tuttle, DayStar)
INITs
Fish INIT — the original one, not Pyro or After Dark. This is one of the original screen dimmers with one big fish that swims back and forth across your screen. Bombs on boot.
Moiré INIT — I know this one is still widely in use, but this will crash with our accelerators. I don't know if it writes right to main memory or what, but it bombs on boot.
One note on 32 bit QuickDraw — v3.1 of our INIT is somewhat disagreeable with 32 QD, but our latest release, v4.0.1 (we've gone to the double-decimal “Apple-Speak”), which is to date Sys 7.0 compatible (and should stay that way), is far more 32 QD-friendly.
APPLICATIONS REQUIRING RECENT VERSION:
BackFax or FaxGate from Solutions -— v1.5 or greater.
Virtual from Connectix — v2.03 or greater.
Maxima from Connectix — v1.08 or greater.
HARDWARE:
DaynaFile & Kennect Rapport Drive 2.4 external floppy drives — they do not follow Apple's guidelines (they take their timing signals from the wrong place I think), and they will not work with accelerated processors.
Switchboard keyboard from DataDesk — does not work with Sys 6.0.5, so you need to get a chip (ROM? PAL?) upgrade from DataDesk.
BUSMASTERS! - we have a known problem with several Busmaster NuBus cards. Busmasters are simply cards that are able to take over the bus (usually to access main memory directly). Here is a list of known cards: Apple's 8/24 GC video card & TokenTalk card.
Pyro
-----
FIX -> You report a conflict (by Terry R. Stick 71310,2650) between Pyro! 4.0 and ResEdit 2.1. Terry was trying to change “Empty Trash” from the Finder's Special menu to “Fumigate Trash” (or something else) with ResEdit, and found out that when he used Pyro! it changed back to “Empty Trash”. This was happening because Pyro! uses Finder's menu ID 15 (the MacPortable's Special menu, which has a “Sleep” command) instead of the regular “Special” menu (ID 5). So, every Pyro! user wishing to change “Empty Trash” to something else should edit both menus 5 and 15 of the Finder. Gabriel Rotskos
QuicKeys 2
-----------
Mayson Lancaster 70441,3263 has informed me that it will be awhile before Scroll2 and QuicKeys 2 are backing to working together, but did confirm this is a problem. Greg Youngs
RasterOps TurboTuner
-----------------------
FIX -> Just want to report an INIT incompatibility I just ran into that may affect some other people. I have a RasterOps 2 page screen for my SE20 and I love it and the additional speed from the card that came with it. It also came with a little program titled TurboTuner. When I upgraded to system 6.05 in order to use the new Hypercard, my Mac would hang up each time I put in a floppy disk. By elimination I identified the problem. I faxed the information to RasterOps and got a message acknowledging the problem and saying that TurboTuner was no longer needed since Apple has added new sound handling features. (I had no problems with System 6.04.) If you share this combination, be warned! Richard Woodworth
Redux
------
To prevent a possible System crash, it is highly recommended that Façade 1.0 is disabled when performing a backup or restore when using Redux 1.6 or higher. J.Web Phillips
Rival
-----
If Rival 1.1.4 is active, Cricket Graph 1.3.2 will not open when running Finder. Workaround: Run MultiFinder or temorarily disable Rival. J.Web Phillips
FIX ->To avoid an INIT conflict between DiskDoubler and Rival 1.1.4 that can possibly cause random System hangs, DiskDoubler users need to upgrade to version 3.1.1 or higher. J.Web Phillips
FIX -> If Rival 1.1.4 is active, some versions of hierDA will not work properly. The fix is to upgrade to NOW Menus 2.0 (the commercial version of hierDA). J.Web Phillips
If Rival 1.1.4 is active, QuickLink Fax II 1.0 will not open when running Finder. Workaround: Run MultiFinder or temorarily disable Rival. Fix: Upgrade to QuickLink Fax 1.09 or higher. J.Web Phillips
If Rival 1.1.4 is active, SmartForm Assistant 1.1v2 will not open when running Finder. Workaround: Run MultiFinder or temorarily disable Rival. J.Web Phillips
Scroll2
-------
Your inference, reported in INITInfo, that QuicKeys 1 is Scroll2 compatible, is incorrect<g>. Scroll2 is QuicKeys 1 compatible, not the other way around. At some point in the future, it will be QuicKeys 2 compatible (namely when I get around to getting my upgrade, after I get the current deadline overrun crunch off my back). Mayson Lancaster
Smart Alarms
---------------
The following are from the doc file, submitted by Larry Balint
Smart Alarms version 3.0.4 fixes the menu conflicts that occurred with CE Toolbox shipped with QuicKeys 2 and Alarming Events as well as Now Utilities. Importing Reminders from text or database files now import the date and advance warning correctly even if a minimum number of fields are used.
Smart Alarms version 3.0.4 fixes the creator type conflict with Theorist.
Smart Alarms version 3.0.3 fixes problems that occurred with SuperLaser Spool and Super Spool. When Smart Alarms version 3.0 was installed with these spoolers occasional system errors occurred when quitting other applications. Smart Alarms and SuperLaser Spool or Super Spool now work correctly when used together.
Smart Alarms version 3.0.3 fixes incompatibilities with Hypercard version 2.
Smart Alarms 3.0.3 should work correctly with Microsoft Excel version 2.2 and HyperCard 2.0, and some other applications that were giving trouble in earlier versions.
It should work correctly with Suitcase II (problems occurred when you opened or closed suitcase files).
Sound Control
---------------
LOADING ORDER -> Quote INIT must load after Riccardo Ettore's Snd Control (by changing the name of one of them), or it will tromp on its sounds. The two work together just fine if the order is reversed (I call Quote Init, “TQuote Init"). Matt Neuburg
Super Boomerang
------------------
AutoMenus 3.0 also gets in the way of SuperBoomerang. Jerry Robin
LOADING ORDER -> A while back I reported some major problems with various inits and cdevs after I upgraded to 6.0.5. These included some of the Now Utilities, After Dark, Suitcase, DT.Extras, CEToolbox, and a few others. I'm happy to report that, thanks to help from you all, I've solved all problems. I'm a bit chagrined to report that the solution was simply to load SuperBoomer first, and make sure CE Toolbox loaded before After Dark. Ed Reppert
Suitcase II
-----------
The current version of Suitcase II is 1.2.9.
Talking Moose
---------------
I think I found a conflict between the MountImage init which allows DiskCopy files (Apple's now-defunct disk imaging utility) to mount on the desktop, and the new Talking Moose. John Rotenstein
Tempo II
----------
FIX -> The current INITInfo indicates that HeapTool does not work with Tempo II. Todd Vogelei at Affinity just advised me that HeapTool v. 1.4 works fine with Tempo. The earlier versions did not. Larry Balint
FIX -> I recently solved another compatibility problem and thought I should pass the results on to you in the event you might want to use the info. I installed Tempo II v. 1.02 on my IIci (using System 6.05, and operating under MultiFinder), and restarted. After all of the INIT icons had paraded across the bottom of my screen, but just before I saw my desktop, I was greeted with the following message: “This disk is unreadable. Do you want to intialize it?” And I had the choice of selecting either Macintosh or MS-DOS formatting. Since there was no floppy in my drive, I assumed I was being asked about my hard disk...and of course I didn't want it intialized at all...especially as MS DOS. This would happen each time I attempted to use the Tempo Kickinit, so I contacted Todd Vogelei at Affinity. He encouraged me to do the old “turn this INIT on and that INIT off” routine until I located the other INIT that was bumping into the Tempo Kickinit. In this case, it turned out to be DOS Mounter 2.0. In retrospect, I should have guessed from the message re MS DOS, but I confess that didn't. The upside to the story is that this conflict does NOT exist between DOS Mounter 2.0 and the new Tempo II Plus. So, if anyone else encounters the problem, the solution is already there — upgrade Tempo to the new version. Larry Balint
The following notes from Todd Vogelei of Affinity Tech Support will be added to the next INITInfo release:
I was recently revising my tech support files and noticed that there have been some changes recently which you may wish to include. Also, on reviewing INITInfo 4.3, I noticed that Richard Lees' assertion that Tempo has troubles with Word 4.0 just isn't correct. I was in contact with Richard via CompuServe at one point and believe that all of his troubles with Tempo were caused by EasyMenus, which he refused to live without. Please note that Tempo has no problem working with Word 4.0 and we frequently use Word for our sales demos.
Clarification:
Boomerang, Directory Assistance, and Shortcut. These can cause problems for Tempo when trying to record a file open with smart features disabled. The reason for this is that they perform keystrokes or mouse clicks to select the last file opened in the Open... dialog scrolling list. Tempo can see and record these keystrokes or mouseclicks. Consequently, macro behavior can be unpredictable on playback. The solution is to disable the rebound feature when recording an open file with Tempo's smart features disabled. SuperBoomerang is able to detect whether Tempo is recording and turn rebound on and off as required. The reason this is not critical when recording with smart features enabled is that Tempo will discard all steps between the opening of the file selection dialog and the actual selection of the file.
Please remove the references to Word 3.0, Suitcase 1.0, and MacWrite 5.0 as these program versions are no longer supported by their publishers.
Please remove the reference to Powermenus as its normal load order is the correct one. Consequently, the probability of having a problem with Powermenus is very small (in a year of tech support I have not received a single call on this).
The item regarding Word 4.0's “interrupt” feature is not clear. It appears to be related only to commands of certain types and may be present in other appications. It would be better if the item read: “If it looks like Tempo has left out a step in a macro during playback, it is probably due to certain applications’ tendencies to abort any incompletely processed commands in favor of the newest command issued. Adding a pause just after the ‘missing’ command will prevent the application from aborting that command in favor of the next one.” It might be better still to remove this reference altogether as it is covered in the manual.
Minimum versions of popular INITs that are compatible with Tempo II (previous versions of these programs are not recommended): Moiré 3.0, HeapTool 1.4, SuperClock! 3.5.
INITs whose load order's should be reversed from normal are: Pyro, Tops, and (space)Outbound. The Timbuktu INIT was previously mentioned, but testing with the newer Timbuktu Remote INIT show no problems in the normal load order.
Configurations that can help alleviate problems: Disable BombGuard in INITPicker, and record macros with Stepping Out in unfixed menu bar mode only (you may play them back in either mode). The quicksort in Juggler is no longer an issue, please remove reference to it.
All owners of versions of Tempo II prior to 1.2.4 are strongly urged to upgrade. Users of Design Studio and FileMaker Pro with versions prior to 1.2.6 are also urged to upgrade.
We have an unconfirmed report that the Radius Pivot cdev version 1.5 fixes problems with Tempo II. I have not verified this. Apart from this, the Radius monitors text in INITInfo 4.3 is correct.
Tempo transfer and file/open commands do not work with Desktop Manager. But please add the text: “Affinity realizes that the Desktop Manager will be built into System 7.0 and expects to have achieved compatibility by the time System 7.0 ships. Meanwhile, DTM can be used if the user removes DTM, rebuilds his desktop file, then replaces DTM. These steps will need to be performed each time a user adds or moves an application.”
Thunder
---------
There is a problem with SLS and Thunder 7 on Mac SEs. If you don't have an SE, you won't ever see the problem. Evan Gross
TouchBASE
------------
FIX -> To fix the TouchBase/Now Menus conflict you can try the following until the TouchBase update is available:
1. Shut off Suitcase II or Font/DA Juggler or MasterJuggler or any such utility. These shouldn't get in the way in their most current versions, but it's not worth taking the chance.
2. Shut off any other INIT you can, just temporarily
3. Run ResEdit.
4. Use ResEdit to open the file that contains the TouchBASE DA.
5. Once you have that file open, select the DRVR resources and open them.
6. Select the one named TouchBASE and get info on it.
7. Remember the ID number from this get info box.
8. Close the get info box, and close the DRVR resources.
9. Create a new resource. In ResEdit 1.2, just use new from the file menu; in ResEdit 2.1 you should use command-K or “create new resource” from the Resource menu.
10. ResEdit will ask you for a type. Type in “MENU” and hit return.
11. For ResEdit 1.2 only, use New again to actually create the resource.
12. Make the name of the menu “TouchBASE”. This isn't necessary but good practice.
13. Close the new MENU resource, but leave open the window containing the other MENU resources.
14. Select your new MENU resource. (It probably will already be selected.)
15. Type command-I to get info.
16. Where it says Owner Type, select DRVR from the list below. DRVR should be the first item in the list.
17. Where it says Owner ID, type 12.
18. Where it says Sub ID, type 31.
19. Close the Get Info window, and close the file.
At this point you should be all set. Turn your INITs back on, make sure the “custom submenus” option from NowMenus is turned on, and you will notice that TouchBASE no longer has a pop-out menu, and that TouchBASE will no longer accidentally activate from Super Boomerang's Open hierarchical menu. jbx (Jorg Brown)
Works
-------
FIX -> Sorry I took so long to get back to you, and thanks for the reply about Works 2.00a on the IIsi. A friend loaned me 200.d and that version solved the problem (and I don't even have to hassle Microsoft for the 2.00d upgrade). Tom Dawes
WYSIWYG Menus
------------------
I just ran into a conflict that I think I've traced to the combination of NOW Utilities WYSIWIG Menus and Acta, by Symmetry. The problem seems to happen with both the Acta DA and the application. The symptom is that all of a sudden, after having been working for a while, I'll pull down the FONT menu and it is BLANK. There's a menu rectangle that is the appropriate size for the font list, but there's nothing in it. I've never had this happen the first time I dropped the menu, nor does it happen with any other application having a font menu that I've discovered. Sometimes, quitting and restarting will restore the menu on a given document, sometimes not. I've simply turned WYSIWIG Menus off, as it is not a function I really need. I use Suitcase II to manage my fonts, and it gives me the option of seeing my font menus in the actual font (although it doesn't affect the SIZE and STYLE menus, which is why I installed WYSIWIG in the first place). Jerry Wilcox
